All of tag4life's founders received liver transplants at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona. Some of us needed more than one liver, or even another organ entirely. A recurring topic of conversation in our support group revolves around the need for medical IDs for those who, like us, are on immunosuppressant drugs. What would happen to us if we were put in a situation where we needed medical attention but couldn't speak for ourselves? Medical professionals including first responders need to know our unique situations, but if we were unconscious or otherwise unable to communicate, what would be considered basic treatment could be deadly.
What if we created a charitable organization to simply pay for medical IDs for needy people - no questions asked? We decided to start with a manageable population of potential users, the 250+ people per year who receive transplanted livers at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix. Our familiarity with this population and Mayo's processes, and Mayo's agreement to work with us, made it the ideal testing group for our concept.
But that is not the full extent of our ambition. Over time we expect to expand to all who need similar services, upwards of ten million people altogether: other transplant recipients at Mayo and elsewhere, cancer patients, those with serious allergies, those who suffer from mental illness, anyone who needs to be able to speak out about their health but has no voice.

Kristi is tag4life’s Director of Human Resources, Secretary, and serves on the Board of Directors. For most of her professional life, Kristi has been involved with the horticulture industry in various forms. She was the Director of Grounds and Custodial at Western New Mexico University, and helped to design and implement what is now the gateway to the university.
Before becoming ill, she had started up a landscape design business, working closely with other local contractors to keep the plants as close to native as possible. From the growing grounds to production and plant design, she has worked with both big box stores and smaller nurseries, and has owned a nursery and garden center with her husband Rick in Silver City NM, where they live with their two dogs and one chicken.
Kristi was diagnosed with end stage liver disease in March of 2022, and was close to death when they made it to the Mayo Clinic campus in Phoenix that May. Her wait time was fairly short, even though she has a rare blood type, and she received her liver transplant in July of 2022. She wears a beaded bracelet from MyID that has a QR code engraved on an anodized aluminum block. This medical alert bracelet will be what allows others to help when she can’t help herself.

Check out Benjamin Weinberg, JD MBA, our founder and President, as he describes what led him to found tag4life, and the purpose he and the other members of the team gain from helping medically vulnerable people pay for their medical IDs.
How tag4life helps the medically vulnerable, with a focus on kids and those belonging to socially disadvantaged groups.
Several of the team members involved in the administration and marketing of our services is a solid organ transplant recipient or associated medical professional. We all know how important it is to have easy access to our crucial medical data, even if we're unable to speak or move. Millions of lives have been saved by these devices, and we are eager to do our part. For us, it's personal.
We only welcome partners and vendors who adhere to our rigorous Code of Conduct, whereby they provide access to the medically vulnerable and/or only the highest quality medical ID devices. We get unique, vendor-specific coupon codes, available only to our customers. These codes entitle you to a discount of up to $50 on your first such ID, which we pay for out of donated funds.
While providing medical IDs to the medically vulnerable is our reason for being, we also recognize that not everyone who needs an ID understands all of the what/where/ when/how and especially the why. While providing medical IDs to the medically vulnerable is our reason for being, we also recognize that not everyone who needs an ID understands all of the what/where/ when/how and especially the why. So, while we continue to diligently work on helping to pay for medical IDs, we also provide unbiased education about these products and services, letting our stakeholders know why they're so important.
We focus on one thing - making sure that price, lack of convenience, or a misunderstanding of why these items are so important aren't what stop someone from having a medical ID if they need it. Two out of three people who need such a device don't have one, and that's unacceptable to us. Our mission is Saving One Life - Yours.
