Shira initially appeared to have  a GI virus. She made a couple of visits to her physician and it was determined there was fluid in her abdomen as well as near her right lung, which was impacting her oxygen levels. Shira was then admitted to the hospital. During the stay they were able to drain the fluid from her lung and abdomen.  Unfortunately, the scans showed cancer… even more concerning, it has metastasized and is at stage 4. Given we don't know where the cancer originated it makes it hard to pinpoint whether it's ovarian or peritoneal cancer. However, both receive the same treatment, which includes chemotherapy and surgery. The chemotherapy starts on February 14.

Shira is spending the majority of her day in bed due to extreme fatigue, abdominal pain, and the need for oxygen when she is standing or walking. She greatly appreciates the outreach of support, well wishes, and inquiries of how you can help her and the boys at this time. For those asking about sending a card, Shira loves them!
